Growing old is inevitable… but aging with grace and comfort is where we can help your pet. Quality of life counts!

As our pets reach the golden years there are a variety of health conditions and diseases that can begin to occur. Changes in weight, mobility, appetite, and decreased hearing and sight are just some of the signs that the aging process is beginning to take place.

Though we cannot slow down the aging process, we can help make your pet comfortable as they age. As pet owners, we can ease the aging process for our pets by having regular senior exams done by our veterinarians. We recommend senior pet exams minimum every 6 months in order to catch and delay the onset or progress of disease, and for the early detection of problems such as organ failure and osteoarthritis.

Simple supplementation or diet changes can have a significant impact on how our pet feels. Pain management for conditions such as arthritis can do wonders for our companions and improve the quality of our pet’s daily life. Getting older isn’t a choice, but how our pet ages can be ours.

We have compiled a list describing some of the signs of an aging pet:

  • Sudden weight loss or gain
  • Change in appetite or failure to eat food
  • Change in water consumption
  • Difficulty passing stool or urine
  • Urinating or defecating in the house while being previously housebroken
  • Chronic lameness or bilateral lameness
  • Vision difficulties
  • Foul mouth odor or persistent drooling
  • Difficulty chewing dry food
  • Exercise intolerance and lethargy
