Flea Control

Flea Control

Itchy! Scratchy! Ew, I have one on my backie! In addition to the itchy bites, fleas can also transmit diseases and possibly affect you and your pet’s health if they are not controlled. Prevention is the key!

We live in a perfect climate for fleas to thrive! Lucky for the fleas, but not so much for our pets! The key to keeping these pesky creatures away is prevention. Fortunately, there are a variety of safe and effective products to help you win the battle against fleas!

Fleas are tiny parasites that feed on the blood of mammals, and are the most common external parasite on dogs and cats. They are not only annoying, but can also cause health problems for our pets. Flea allergy dermatitis, tapeworms, and anemia in smaller animals are only a few of these potential problems.

If a pet has fleas and you have more than one pet in the house, chances are that all have been affected and therefore treating all household pets is strongly recommended. Flea bites can occur on anyone in contact with an infested dog, cat, or home.

Though many pet owners feel treatment is only necessary during warmer months, year round uninterrupted treatment is the best way to keep these most unwelcome guests from your home, family, and pets for good!

We are fortunate to have many safe, effective products to help win the battle against fleas today. Topical or oral treatments are available, and products to treat your home environment as well. As these products are dispensed according to your pet’s weight – it is a good idea to have an accurate weight of your pet before dispensing. We are here to help you choose the best solution to keep your pet and family flea free. Have questions? Contact us at 778-428-6401 or tsolumvet@shaw.ca.
